Healthy Over 40 - Using Your Mind
If you ask just about anyone over 40, they will say they want to be healthy and fit--not overweight and unhealthy. Yet, 127 million Americans are just that--overweight and unhealthy. Heart disease and high cholesterol are common. How can we change the way we look and feel and stay healthy over 40? It is all in your mind.
Changing the way you "think" is the key.
Think positive - If you think negatively--that it cannot be done or is too hard--then you are doomed to failure before even starting. The first step toward losing weight and staying healthy over 40 is to think positively. Yes, it can be done and, yes, you can do it. If you change how you view it, half the battle is already won. Think of it as a done deal--that you are going to lose this much weight by this time--and work towards it.
Discipline - The dictionary's definition of discipline is to "train by instruction and exercise". To be successful in getting healthy, you need to train your brain by instructing it and then exercise what you are learning. This will help to change your thinking pattern from "unhealthy" to "healthy" and from "sedentary" to "exercise." By then applying what you learn, it will then become a habit--a good habit and one you will learn to enjoy.
Planning Ahead - Scheduling and planning ahead is of key importance, as life is busy for everyone. You must schedule when to exercise and plan what you will eat. If you do not schedule when you will exercise, somehow the day will end, and you still have not found the time. But, make sure you are reasonable in your expectations and goals, or they will quickly be disregarded. The same is true with choosing your meals. If you do not plan ahead and just grab something on the fly, most likely it will be full of fat and have little nutritional value. Better to plan your meal and know what you will eat. It takes some planning, but well worth it.
If you want to be healthy over 40, you need to use your mind. First you need to adjust your mind to think positively, to convince yourself that you will succeed. Then, you need to educate and discipline your mind to make the right food and exercise choices. And, then, finally, you need to plan ahead. Plan your exercise routine and your meals. Changing your mind can change your life--from unhealthy and overweight, to healthy and fit.
I have been an avid exercise and health advocate throughout my life.
