Be Fit Over Forty - Use the Top 10 Tips to Trick Yourself Into Weight Loss

By Allison Holt

To be Fit Over 40 you need to be able to stay focused and on track to succeed. That is why motivation and staying on your diet and weight loss plan can sometimes be a challenging mind game.
Over the years of trying this diet and that diet I am sure you have found that there are times when it is hard to stay on track then other times when things just seem to go fine. It is during the hard times that we need the motivation and the strength to stay on track.
Sometimes it takes everything you have to do this. There seems to be countless hours that seem to drag on when you are hungry and can only think about food. Well there is help in staying on track and fit over forty. I have found that you can trick your mind and body into losing weight. You can actually make yourself feel full and get rid of those cravings. You can forget abut food and get back to the other things that need your attention.
I want to share these with you so and have came up with the following list to help everyone stay Fit Over 40. Here they are:
The Top 10 List Of All Time Weight Loss Mind Tricks:
1. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of cold water per day. You hear this often and for good reason. Most people don't do it. They think they are drinking that much but aren't. So, count out your glasses for a few days and get used to how much water it actually is. Ensure that you drink one glass of water prior to each meal to help fill you up. Also, if it is cold that is even better, as your body will need to burn a few extra calories to heat you back up.
2. Eat something for breakfast and make sure it includes a small portion of protein. Rev up your engine for maximum metabolism burn. This kick start to the day will keep your metabolism high through-out the day. Again it is something you hear all of the time because people ignore it. And just so you know, 2 cups of coffee does not count as breakfast!
3. Carry a bag of carrots or your favorite vegetable with you all of the time to use for emergency snacks when you get hungry. Carrots are my favorite because they are crunchy, they are sweet, they are good for you and you can't really eat too many. Do I need to say anymore?
4. Do not eat after 8 pm at night. Your body's natural metabolism slows done during the late night period. Try to let it do that by not eating.
5. Do not consume useless extra calories from your beverages. Switch to diet soda, drink black coffee, limit your alcohol intake. Another thing that can get people are fruit juices. Limit them to 1or 2 servings per day at the most. Yes, they are good for you and have a lot of vitamins, but they also have a high amount of natural sugar. So, enjoy them, but don't over do it.
6. Switch some of your food to lower fat or fat free options. For example , switch your milk from 2% to skim milk. Buy light or fat free foods where ever you can. It all counts and can add up quickly. Just think if you switched to the light versions of margarine, sour cream, mayonnaise, ice cream, cheese and milk. That is a lot less fat. But don't stop there, anytime you see something you regularly buy become available in a lower fat version go for it.
7. Use spices instead of dressings that have a lot of fat. Learn new ways to cook and to use spices to take your meals from diet boring to low calorie exciting. A simple and easy way to reduce fat while cooking and flavoring things up!
8. Keep a food journal. It doesn't have to be fancy or formal. By keeping track of all your food intake and by doing it honestly you will stay on track. It is easy to forget something during our busy day, so doing this lets us know how many calories we are really consuming in a day. You might be surprised.
9. Finish all meals with a piece of sugar-less gum. This will help you from over indulging after your meal is over. Many times after we eat we feel a craving for something sweet and end up ordering a dessert we do not need. Do you know why we get this craving? Because we have conditioned ourselves over time to expect sweetness after a meal. Chewing a piece of sugar-less gum will combat thins and save you calories.
10. Switch your normal dishware for smaller plates and bowls. This will naturally help you from not stocking your plate high with extra calories. It has been proven that if you have a bigger plate or bowl that you will take more food. Trick your mind into eating less and still feeling full.
So now that you have seen the tips, try to use a few of them at a time over the next few weeks until you are using them all. You will see a difference in the amount of calories and fat you are consuming. Especially if you keep the journal and can go back and compare notes.
Being Fit At Forty can be done and you can do it. Do as much as you can, but realize that we all have good days and bad days. We make mistakes every day in every part of our lives. You will make mistakes on your journey, I know I have. I also know that is how we improve. Forgive the mistake but do not forget it and most importantly, forgive yourself. Learn from it and move on. Tomorrow is your next chance to improve your health and fitness but why wait, start today. Successful dieting and weight loss is a life choice. You will have bumps along the way.

Over 40 Fitness Program Checklist
By Derek Penycate

So you want to start doing some fitness exercises to help you stay healthy and stay fit over 40? Congratulations! You're taking the first step toward fulfilling your goal for fitness over 40. Below I have compiled a list you can use as a guideline to check your fitness program. It is important to start out on the right course to increase the chance of your fitness routine goals being reached.

Here is the checklist:

I decided on the level of I wanted to achieve before deciding which fitness program suited me the best
I decided which days I would perform my fitness routine while allowing myself the occasional day or days off
I would try to make my exercise routines a lifetime habit, rather than just a when 'I feel in the mood' habit
I would do my exercise routines as intensely as possible
I would monitor my fitness workout intensity by how laboured my breathing was, if I struggled to hold a conversation then I was working out at the right intensity for me
I would do my exercise routines in the shortest time I comfortably could
I was not going spend hours and hours mindlessly performing the same exercises over and over again
I would create a fitness programme that would keep my muscles well toned, because that would help me maintain a stable bodyweight 24 hours a day, seven days a week

Every fitness routine would benefit from following the guidelines outlined above. I'm not saying you can't achieve your fitness goals goals if you don't use or follow the guidelines on the list, but it will be easier if you did. Here are some secondary pointers that you should consider as well:

The better toned your muscles are the more energy or calories you will burn, even while investing, because muscle is an active tissue which uses energy just maintenance
This will help to prevent or reduce the chances of you getting 'middle age spread'
The more intensely you perform your fitness workouts the less time you will need to spend at each session
Just two short intense sessions fitness exercises would be nearly as beneficial as try to do three or four longer fitness routines in a week

This is a great way to get into and stay with a fitness over 40 routine. Which you can carry on with the rest of your life.

I suffer from severe asthma and lower back problems. This has made it almost impossible for me to enjoy sports or any kind of strenous physical activity. But as I get older it's vital for me to stay healthy. So I've decided to go out and find easy, alternative ways ANYONE can get fit without endlessly puffing away on treadmills, lifting heavy weights or enduring hours of exercise. Now at last you can get healthy... and STAY healthy for life.... with these lazy, gentle and quick methods I've discovered. They really work! Weight Loss, Fat Loss, & Getting Fit Over 40
By Craig Ballantyne Platinum Quality Author

No matter what your age, if you are over 40, or over 50 and beyond, you can still lose weight and burn fat. With the fit over 40 weight loss approach, you can develop the mindset needed to help lose fat and get fit at any age. Just look at the incredible inspirational stories.

I recently spoke with coach and fitness professional, Jon Benson, who is living proof of the fit over 40 methods, as a mere seven years ago he was clinically obese and near death. Having lived through obesity, and having beat it, allows Jon to relate to so many others and what they are going through.

Today, Jon is an internationally recognized transformation lifecoach, specializing in mental strategies for the excellence lifestyle, fat-burning nutrition and superior physical fitness.

CB: Jon, for a lot of people at any age, the biggest problem is getting over the inertia of starting. Any tips? And do they differ for someone like yourself that had been in fitness before compared to someone getting fit for the first time?

JB:
Craig, I would start by encouraging anyone interested in changing their body, no matter what their age may be, to change their mind first.

What I mean by that is simply this: we excel at what we 'become'.

We dabble at what we 'participate in'.

Most people want to "participate" in fitness. Perhaps join a health club, get a trainer, go on a diet, and so-on. Yet everyone on the planet would answer YES to this question: "Do you want to be fit
for the rest of your life?"

Think about it: Can you be 'anything positive' for the rest of your life when you dabble at what you seek? No.

So, to get over the inertia of starting a fitness program, I encourage what I call "Core Linking".

Core Linking is covered in my book, "Fit Over 40". This is where you attach your deepest Core Values to a specific fitness and nutritional goal. Then you "Personalize" these objectives into a
what I call a "State of Becoming."

You 'become' your goal. Rather than "achieving" a goal, which for most is followed by an immediate cessation of the lifestyle patterns they used to become successful, I say 'become' your goal.

Become "a body-shaper." Label yourself as a "bodybuilder", "body-shaper", "physical culturist", "athlete", whatever! Create a label that FORCES your goal to be LARGER THAN YOU.

This engages the subconscious mind to a remarkable degree. It challenges you in ways that prevent things like "boredom" or excuses like, "I don't feel like it" from getting in your way.

All of this begins with the power of The Core.

Oh, by the way -- it doesn't matter if you're a newbie or a seasoned bodybuilder, Core Leveraging works to achieve and become whatever you desire.

CB: So Jon, how do you help people stick with the plan? We all know motivation wanes quickly as results slow down. Any tips?

JB:
Believe it or not, I really don't believe in motivation. "I believe in inspired, consistent action."

Motivation is short-term. I can motivate just about anyone with a good speech or perhaps an emotionally-charged piece of music. But is this long-term? Hardly.

The truly successful, at anything in life, are self-governed and intrinsically motivated. Actually, they are "inspired" -- and that's the ticket beyond the motivational trap.

Don't get me wrong -- we all need motivation from time to time. But I like to think of it as sugar. It's quick fuel that burns out just as quickly.

Inspired action, which comes when you develop your Core, sticks around for the long haul.

Inspired action makes a guy like Lance Armstrong take on the Tour de France after going through the worst cancer imaginable. Inspired action drives a boxer to continue a fight with a broken jaw. And,
inspired action will PULL YOU toward a goal.

The opposite is a feeling of "I have to." This is a "push". We want to be PULLED. It starts with inspired action, not motivation.

CB: And finally, what nutrition and training changes have you noticed at different stages in your life and in the experiences of the success stories in your book? Do the nutrition principles change at all? What about training and recovery?

JB:
As you age, your body tends to process carbohydrate more reluctantly.

There are exceptions of course, but for the most part people with any issues with bodyfat to begin with should curtail their intake of carbs.

This may not mean a "low-carb" diet, but they certainly work if you enjoy protein foods as I do.

Cranking up the protein, the water, and various forms of cardio can allow just about anyone at any age to get the fat off and build muscle.

I'm building plenty of muscle at 43 -- more so than I did at 33. The body fat comes off a bit slower, but not much...that is when I consume a higher protein, controlled carb, moderate fat diet with intense and brief weight training sessions.

I am currently experimenting with daily cardio sessions which vary in intensity. Some are longer at 65% MHR, others are 30 minutes at 85%. So far, so good.

Bottom line: If you eat and think properly, as I discuss in Fit Over 40 (the mind is a huge part of all of this), your body can respond like it did when you were 20.

CB: Thanks Jon, that is greatly appreciated. Any final comments for today's interview? I'm sure we'll be talking more in the future.

JB:
My system of Caloric Rotation allows for muscle building and the burning of bodyfat to happen at the same time. In order to get the body you want, you want to gain lean muscle. That gives you the
curves you seek, plus keeps your bones nice and strong.

You 'also' want to burn off excess bodyfat. Otherwise you'll never see the muscle you are building. Once you do that, you're "toned". In short, you become a fat-burning machine.

So "mentally let yourself do this". Mentally give yourself "permission". That sounds strange, but it's actually part of my System. The mind must be engaged or the body will not follow.

Become Fit Over 40 today!

CB: Thanks Jon. No matter what your age, Jon's mindset changing tips will help you burn fat and gain muscle - and more importantly, build the best body of your life.
