Fit Over 40 and Nutrition
By Clare Wadsworth Platinum Quality Author

One crucial factor required to achieve fitness is to eat healthy by including all food groups.

Carbohydrates are found in rice, potatoes, bread, pasta and some fruits and vegetables. Carbohydrates give us the energy we need to be active and alert throughout the day, but some are full of unwanted sugar and starch.

Eating for fitness includes replacing white bread with whole grain breads. Instead of white rice, eat wild rice or brown rice. Wheat pasta can be found at most grocery stores and health food stores.

Some fruits and vegetables contain carbohydrates. While first seeking fitness, limit them. Once you have reached a healthy level of fitness, most people can eat all the fruits and vegetables they desire.

Proteins include eggs, meat (both beef & poultry), dairy products and fish. Protein increases fitness by contributing to muscle mass, overall body growth and assists in body repair. Fish is one of the healthiest proteins you can consume. It is low in fat, and full of healthy omega oils.

Selecting dairy products low in fat and choosing the leanest cuts of red meat will help in reaching your fitness goals. Limiting the amount of red meats and opting for more poultry or fish also promotes better fitness.

Consuming low fat proteins will naturally help you avoid fatty foods. Instead of using butter, try using olive or canola oil. Do not remove fat all together from your diet as it too provides energy to our body.

Taking vitamin and mineral supplements will help in the quest to be Fit over 40. If you are eating less to lose weight, you may need supplements. Be sure they do not contain unwanted sugar, starch or preservatives.

Vitamins are naturally found in our food and include vitamins A, C, D, E and a number of B vitamins. Vitamins assist in protecting us from illness by supporting our immune system. They keep our bodies' healthy and help to strengthen bone. Some help our skin stay supple and younger looking, while others keep our hair strong and lustrous.

Minerals aid our body by preventing the advance of free radicals that break down our body and leave us vulnerable to disease.

Iron helps distribute oxygen to our body's organs and calcium strengthens our bones and teeth.

Potassium promotes our muscle and nervous systems by maintaining the appropriate amounts of water we require.

Zinc assists in cell growth and aids the immune system in protecting us.

Drink lots of water. Limit or completely avoid sugary soda and juices, however, natural juices that contain low levels of sugar can be part of a healthy diet. Water purifies our entire body and helps to flush out toxins. Drink, at least eight, 8 ounce, glasses of water and healthy juices a day.

Being Fit is a direct benefit of healthy nutrition. Consuming foods low in fat, sugar and starch from all food groups will put you on the fast track to fitness. Fitness will not only make you feel better, but may help you look and feel younger. For more information on being Fit over 40 CLICK HERE

Fit Over 40 Can Be You
By Clare Wadsworth Platinum Quality Author

Once your doctor approves your fitness plan and goals, your next step is to purchase a good pair of walking shoes. Depending on where you will be walking you may want to consider purchasing a pair of hiking shoes, especially if you plan to continue walking outdoors in an area that receives snow fall. Walking outdoors in the winter can be quite invigorating.

However, the beauty of walking is you can walk indoors too. Purchase a treadmill or join a gym during the winter months if you do not want to walk outdoors in the cold.

If you are watching your budget, check with a local college. Many have an indoor track or gymnasium you can use for little or no cost provided a class is not training in it. The physical education instructor can provide you with a schedule for the current semester. Once you know the schedule of availability, you can use the space as your time permits.

Whether you decide to walk to lose weight, tone & strengthen muscle or to achieve overall fitness, the benefits can last a lifetime.

Walking promotes weight loss through caloric burn. The more you walk the more calories you will burn and the more weight you will lose.

Walking also promotes a healthy heart and lungs. Through walking you will develop a stronger cardiovascular system.

To attain better aerobic fitness, pick up the pace by walking faster. If you have the ability, you may intermittently jog and walk.

All fitness programs have three basic components.

The warm-up is the first part of a fitness routine. Gentle stretches is an excellent warm-up and many books offer diagrams of the appropriate techniques. It warms the body in preparation for the more intense paced main activity of your program.

The main body of your fitness routine is where the real activity occurs. Start with physical walking for 15 minutes, 3 times a week. You can also add upper body calisthenics for toning muscles in that area.

End your workout with a cool down. Walk less aggressively to ease the pumping of your heart and slow your blood flow. Stretching can also be performed again and is a great way to prevent muscle stiffness.

When you realize the benefits of walking and fitness improves, you can gradually add 5 minutes to your routine. You can also add another day of walking into your week. As you continue to look and feel better, increase the amount of time you walk until you are performing your fitness routine 30-60 minutes a day, 3-4 times a week.

As you notice your weight falling, and your overall body strength and tone improving, you will quickly realize and appreciate the results you have achieved. The rewards will be in how good you look and feel. For more tips and information on being Fit over 40, please CLICK HERE

Fit Over 40 is Possible
By Clare Wadsworth Platinum Quality Author

Being truly fit encompasses strong muscles and joints, along with a healthy cardiovascular system. Having a blood pressure of approximately 120 over 80 is good. Your doctor can check your blood pressure and explain what these numbers represent. Ideal body weight is based on age, sex, height and the size body frame you possess.

Have realistic goals and discussing factors such as age, weight and current level of fitness with your Doctor is the best place to start. After this visit you can set goals and select the form of exercise you will perform to reach fitness.

Depending on your age & present level of fitness, your physician may ask you to have a complete physical. A thorough check up will provide a true picture of your current fitness. This will assist in setting goals. Your doctor may suggest some specific goals for you and may recommend a fitness routine that will enable you to reach your goals.

Keep a journal. Your first entry will be your current physical fitness level. Update your journal weekly. As you reach each fitness goal, reward yourself for continued motivation to achieve other goals in your quest to be fit. A reward can be decadent food treats, but a new pair of shoes or a jacket you have wanted contains zero calories.

There are some fitness routines that almost anyone at any age can perform to be fit.

Walking will require a good pair of walking shoes. Begin by walking 15 minutes a day, 3 times a week. After 2-4 weeks, add 5 minutes to your walk. Continue adding time in 5 minute increments until you are walking 30 minutes a day, 3 days a week.

Biking, in my opinion, requires a comfortable seat. If you need a bike with one wheel in the front & two wheels in the back for balance & stability, buy it. Once again, you need to start out slow and increase the amount of time your ride as your fitness improves.

Swimming is an excellent, low to no impact workout. If swimming is the way you really want to gain fitness, consider joining a gym or swim club. Either may offer swimming instructions to assist you in learning different swimming styles and techniques that may benefit different areas of your body.

Yoga, not only can strengthen muscle, increase flexibility, but many studies have shown, it can reduce stress. You can perform yoga at home by purchasing a book or DVD to teach yourself the different poses and methodologies of yoga. Joining a yoga class is also an option especially if you want to socialize and share achievements with others. Yoga classes usually have an instructor who is available for extra assistance with beginners.

Once you reach the level of fitness you are seeking, re-evalute. Are you satisfied with the level of fitness you have attained? Maybe, the "new you" realizes the benefits of being fit. You may even want to achieve a higher level of fitness. You may want to work out more often in a week or workout longer each time you exercise.

Weather might affect that desire, but you do have options. If walking and the weather is not good, you can join a gym. Most have an indoor track. You can buy a stationary bike for indoor riding when necessary. Many gyms and health clubs have indoor pools. Take advantage of these choices in the winter.

Whatever form of fitness you select; you will see the many benefits and reap the many rewards. Not only will you look & feel better, you will have pride in yourself and the goals you have reached to be fit. For more information or tips about being Fit over 40, please CLICK HERE

Tips to Become Fit Over 40
By Michael R. Mitchell

Are you over 40, or 50, or 60 and beyond? Are you telling yourself that you're out-of-shape and it's too late for you? Maybe talking down to yourself saying that you're just destined to be fat and clinically obese and there is nothing you can do because you're too old to start something new? Do you think it's probably impossible to be fit over 40?

GREAT! Then I have some awesome news for you.

It's NOT TOO LATE to be fit over 40!
I have discovered something out there for us 40-somethings that provides such modeling and lifestyle-changing information that it literally took me off my rump on the couch and got me moving around and doing something to save myself!

I discovered some amazing role models that were like me, over 40 and out of shape. Not only were some of these people obese, but they were even riddled with diseases like Multiple Sclerosis, High Cholesterol and Triglycerides, Hypertension, Hormonal Deficiency, Drug Addiction, Alcoholism, Scoliosis, Arthritis, Paralysis, Osteoporosis, Knee surgery and even Open Heart Surgery -- they all refused to be victims any longer, and completely overcame their challenges!

So here's how I found my discovery. A man named Jon Benson started off about five years ago being ill, overweight and unhealthy, and basically his doctor told him he needed to get himself healthy or die.

So what do you do when your doctor tells you something like that? Do you even know where to begin?

Well, you do exactly what Jon did, and this is to turn to the many role models out there, and not only get their story of their successes, but dig down in the trenches and actually do the same for yourself.

After Jon lost 65 lbs. and went into the doctor's office for his physical, his own doctor didn't even recognize him. He recognized his name, but that's about it. Amazing.

So what I discovered about Jon and his success, is exactly how to do what he's done by "breaking the code" and in doing so learned how to revitalize health, and turn back the aging clock!

You can actually finally enjoy being fit over 40, and feel better than you did in your 20s and 30s. You can have a thin, lean waistline - not that muffin top that just rolls over your jeans; a better sex life - and who doesn't want that; incredible energy and stamina; better mental alertness; a stronger heart, an increased immune system and a reduced "real age."

So whether you're still in your 30s, in your 40s already, or in your 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond...Find your role models. Model exactly what they do and then add your own element to it.

Fit Over 40 - Finding Your Path to Lifelong Fitness
By Scott Fisher Platinum Quality Author

If you are over the age of 40 then you know this is period of your life when it is most important that you get healthy. Every year, more and more middle aged men and women are diagnosed with serious age related illnesses such as diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's. Heart attacks, strokes, and other heart disease related deaths are at a shocking all time high. It is no coincidence that the increase in senior illnesses parallels the increase in the number of seniors who are overweight, sedentary, and generally unfit.

There are many reasons you may not have begun an over 40 fitness program, but one of the most common reasons is that you do not know where to start. There are too many so-called experts out there promising miracle results through "one size fits all" fitness plans. However, most people never achieve success on this type of plan.

This is why Jon Benson and Tom Venuto's e-book Fit Over 40 is an incredibly useful guide to everyone over 40 looking to get fit. Jon and Tom have learned that everyone is unique, with different body types, fitness goals, and lifestyles. Therefore, there is no one plan that will work for everyone. Instead, they share their own personal fitness journeys, along with those of 52 other men and women your age, so that you can build a plan that will maximize your results.

Jon and Tom come from different fitness backgrounds. Tom has been a physical trainer for decades. He has written fitness and bodybuilding articles for many major industry magazines. His "Five Pillars" fitness technique has received much acclaim. This technique addresses the many facets of fitness, such as the different forms of exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle. In the book, he thoroughly explains his program so that you can use his insight on your fitness journey.

Jon, on the other hand, entered his 40s overweight and unfit. He had lived an unhealthy lifestyle for many years and was suffering from many illnesses because of it. He finally had the realization that he must save his life through fitness. His journey was filled with ups and downs, but he achieved success and is now fit for life. Sharing the details of his journey with you can help you more successfully prepare for your own.

The e-book also includes the fitness stories of 52 men and women in their 40s, 50s, 60, 70s, and later. Some are competitive athletes, but many are just ordinary individuals who realized that they could stay youthful longer if they got into shape. Each person shares their story of how they got started, where they are now, and what motivates them. You will read that they all started at different ages and levels of fitness yet all achieved the same amazing results. You will read about the unique obstacles each of them faced. Next, they each detail their exercise programs, including why they made certain choices of exercises and schedules. This is where you will see that each person's exercise program is unique because each person's body has different needs and renewal times. You will also learn about each diet plan and how different nutritional plans support different fitness goals. Finally, you will read about the different lifestyle choices each made and how those choices have benefited them.

The significant benefit of this section is that you learn that each person has unique fitness needs and goals. Therefore, each person needs a unique over 40 fitness plan. The way for you to create your ideal fitness plan is to study what has worked for others. Incorporate into your plan the aspects of their plans that suit your needs and goals. The more success stories you study, the more thorough your fitness over 40 plan will be.

Jon and Tom have compiled these stories to help you create the best fitness plan for you. They have done the research for you and found excellent role models to follow. If you let the examples and techniques in Fit Over 40 guide you, you will be on the right path to lifelong health, youth, and happiness.

Fit Over 40 is an ebook which was created by Jon Benson with the help of Tom Venuto (the famous trainer). The ebook is intended for men and women over 40 who want to get lean, look youthful, feel energetic, and improve their health.

The main part of the book is a role modeling part. In it, Jon Benson brings to you the stories of remarkable people over 40 who maintain a physique and fitness level which would make them a source of envy for 20 year olds'. What this does is allow you to tap into the successes of other people like you, take what works for them, and apply it in your own life. Role modeling is a powerful method to achieve fast results in any field. It reduces the learning curve so that you can quickly and easily start doing the right and effective things.

However, you also learn how Jon Benson himself transformed his life by bringing all that he learned from these people he interviewed together and formulated a plan which helped him lose over 65 pounds, increase muscle mass by over 10 pounds, and basically reinvent himself, and save his health and well being. This is something which you can start using today and see results in a short time.

Fit Over 40 can help you begin the process of rejuvenation. It not only deals with diet and fitness but with a whole range of health issues which we usually start noticing as we progress in years. Anything from high blood pressure, the effects of aging, hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, lack of muscle mass, and so on, is worked on in this ebook.

Reviews of Fit Over 40 are highly positive from professional and regular users alike. I believe it's a valuable resource for any young at heart individual who wishes to be as fit, sexy, energetic, and youthful as possible.

Metabolism Over 40 - It's Not Too Late to Lose Weight
By Kaleena A Lawless Platinum Quality Author

Developing a slower metabolism after you turn 40 is a fact. It is not a myth or an excuse. After you turn forty your metabolism decreases in speed, by about 5% every decade. Fortunately it doesn't have to mean the end of seeing results or losing your figure. There is something you can do about it.

Reasons For a Slower Metabolism

1. Genetics. Did your parents gain weight in their 40's and 50's? How about your grandparents? You can't do anything to change your genetics but you can plan in advance. Knowing what to expect by looking to your relatives, will help you figure out exactly how much extra effort you are going to have to put in to keep seeing results.

2. Thyroid Functioning. Thyroid complications can make you gain weight at a slow pace but unfortunately, it happens. Women deal with thyroid issues a lot more than men by about 10 to 1.

3. Losing muscle mass. You start losing muscle mass slowly after you hit 25-30 by about 1% per year, if you are not lifting weights to maintain muscle mass. Muscle not only burns calories but it speeds your metabolism. On top of that, having muscle tones your body and makes you look more fit.

4. Increased Stress. As you get older life becomes more complicated. Stress releases a hormone called cortisol, which slows down your metabolism. Stress triggers cravings, overeating, fat storage and raises your blood sugar levels, which causes fatigue.

5. Decreased Activity. When people get older they accumulate injuries and conditions that consequently force them to exercise less and at a reduced intensity.

What can be done about a slowing metabolism to lose weight?

1. Eat less. Reduce your calories by 100-200 per day. This will offset the 5% decrease in your resting metabolic rate.

2. Eat food that digests quickly. The last thing you want, is food sitting inside you all day. Remember, the quicker food digests, the less fat is stored. Eat a lot of vegetables, fruits and yogurt. Eat more protein and reduce carbohydrates. If you have a drink with your dinner start by reducing alcoholic intake by half a glass a night. You can still enjoy some wine but a slight reduction will make a huge difference over time.

3. Change your lifestyle. Walk more. Instead of sitting with friends while you talk, walk and talk instead. Take your kids indoor rock climbing instead of to the movies. Shop out of the house instead of online. Or even try biking to work. Basically just accumulate more activity in to your daily routine. All of those burned calories add up!

4. Lift Weights. This is so important. I always recommend this to everybody no matter what age. Lifting weights will speed your metabolism. I can't say that about anything else with 100% certainty. Lifting weights doesn't mean being muscular. It means being toned, with strong bones and more energy. To start, lift a weight that is heavy enough to preform 12-15 reps with. If you go higher than 21 reps, get heavier weights.

5. Change your workout. New routines always shocks the body in to change. Trying something new is fun and effective. If you walk, try cycling. If you run, try a yoga classes for runners. If you want an intense workout but your joints can't take it, try swimming.

Many people have started exercising after 40 and have seen amazing results. Some go on to compete in fitness competitions and competitive athletic events. Being over 40 doesn't mean the end of your fitness journey! Just take it a step at a time and change your lifestyle habits to work with a new resting metabolic rate.

Fit Over 40
By Neil A Thomas

Whenever I am asked how old I am one of the answers I will sometimes give is that there has been a lot of water gone under this bridge. I don't really know where this comes from, maybe my father had something to do with it.

Nowadays we seem to be more obsessed about age than we ever have been, people tend to want to stay young, rather than grow old gracefully, I suppose that is why plastic surgery is now just routine.

When we were young people over 40 were old codgers, when you get to 40 younger people just don't know where its at. Maybe we should all just be thankful that we are still around to enjoy life to the full.

For the thought that when you get to 40 you are over the hill, the reply should be life begins at 40, the one thing you do attain as you get older is experience in many things and a better understanding of life.

I have been fortunate in my life to have spent a lot of time on the road, this has led to meeting many people, of many different cultures and countries and overall there was a general understanding that older people should be respected, when the respect is not present, that is when you have problems.

A very funny writer in the UK was once asked what was his definition of old age, to which he replied Old age is when you think it is perfectly normal to spend most of the evening in the toilet! I think when you get to that stage you have got some serious thinking to do.

I have spent a large part of my life involved in sport and one of the questions you ask yourself when you stop is what do I do now. The answer is obvious, you don't have to stop, just maybe change to a less physical or demanding type. Fitness is not just in the body, a large part of being fit is also in the mind and also what you eat and your lifestyle.

Nowadays a lot of fitness regimes tend to revolve around the younger generation, this is not a bad thing as a big problem worldwide seems to be childhood obesity, I also think young people spend more time indoors so getting them out is good.

Fit Over 40 - Is it Still Possible to Be Fit and Healthy at That Age?
By Tom Mandasco Platinum Quality Author

Well, I am over 40 for many years already. I had this question when I entered my 40th birthday. At that time, I did not give much attention on the health subject. I just passed my thirties and I feel that my body was still doing OK. However, after talking to many doctors, I found out that the body needs our attention when we become forty and we are going to discuss the topic about how to be fit over 40.

From what I learned from many sources of information, I found out that we all can be healthier at whatever age we are. If we do the following basic steps:

1. Eat the right food
You will need to avoid fatty food like fat and carbohydrate. I know this is very basic but it is really necessary. Vegetables and fibers are also important for our health. Unfortunately, fruits nowadays are so commercialized that we can not get full benefit from them. In stead, we got a lot of sugars from them and that is not so good. Unless, you can find the fruit that have low sugar, you should avoid fruits too.

2. Drink enough water
A lot of people now do not care much about drinking water. That is wrong because water is a very important element of our life. It can cleanse our body and make the body metabolism flows normally. Make sure that you have at least eight to ten glasses of water everyday.

3. Exercise
If you are not the one who exercises regularly, you will have to be careful on doing that now since our body will not be like when we was younger. We can still be fit by exercise but we will need to know the right steps. You can be even fitter than the people in their twenties or thirties. Learning how to have proper exercise is another important puzzle of how to be fit over 40

All of the above ingredients are essential for your health and you will need to learn how to implement it. With the right knowledge, being fit over 40 is not difficult at all.

If you want to know the secret on how to be fit over 40, you can learn it from Fit Over 40 Review.

A Quick Look at the Fit Over 40 Program
By Allison Thompson Platinum Quality Author

In this article we will provide a review of the Fit Over 40 eBook that can be found on the internet today. The Fit Over 40 review looks at this very interesting book which has been written by Jon Benson and Tom Venuto. But just what is so interesting in particular about this book.

Well for starters it does not tell the reader to do this, do that, eat this or do not eat that. But instead it provides a person with motivation and shows them much better ways of achieving their goals and this is all done through example in the book.

What is particularly good about this book is that during part one it describes all the struggles that Jon Benson went through in order to succeed and transform his body and health to the person you will see today. So the benefit you gain from this book is actually looking at the co-writer who will have gone through the same trials and tribulations that you are facing when you commence looking for a way to make both your body and you much healthier.

Also this eBook is particularly good as it draws on the trials and tribulations of others not just aged 40 but goes up to and includes information on people who are well into their Seventies. It provides you with an insight as to how these 52 people dealt with health issues once they had gone passed the age of 40 and to which many people will find easy to relate to. The reader of this eBook will be looking to attain the same levels of fitness as those that are shown within it rather than trying to reach the unobtainable goals of many pro-athletes in order for them to get in great shape.

Also this eBook provides the reader with the stages of helping to slow the anti aging process that occurs to all of us as we grow older. In this part Tom Venuto specifically looks at weight and strength training, aerobic training, learning to be flexible, lifelong nutrition and recovery and renewal. But he also explains why a big part in order for anyone to get fit and maintaining this fitness and so improving their lifelong health is all to do with a person's mental attitude.

At this point we must reiterate that if you are looking for a guide that will show you what exercises to do and provide you with a tailored workout plan then this is not the book for you. If however you are looking for a great read and reference book to help improve your health and fitness and to motivate you to get fit then this book is well worth considering. If this doesn't motivate you nothing will.

Whether you are over 40 or even in your 20's and need motivation and role models to get you to take action then I would consider looking at Fit Over 40. Hopefully the Fit Over 40 review provided above will provide you with a way for you to achieve your goals. Plus at only $39.00 and with a 60 day money back Guarantee this is a great value for money product.

Is Being Fit Over 40 Possible?
By Sammie Clemmons Platinum Quality Author

The answer to my title question is a resounding yes!

There is absolutely no reason that people over 40 have to give up and 'let themselves go'. You can be fit and healthy at any age- but you do have to know how to do that, as there are things you must change in order to stay in great shape after the age of forty. Knowing that the body's metabolism slows when we reach middle age, your first priority is stimulating your metabolism.

There are a couple of things that are essential to revving your fat-burners up to what they were like in your twenties and thirties:

Regular exercise. New studies tell us that short bursts of exercise, more frequently, are even better for you than hours struggling at the gym. So wherever you are, and as many times a day as you can, give yourself some 5-minute exercises that help shape your muscles but also increase your metabolism, which increases your fat loss. A great cycle to be in-- more metabolism, more fat loss, and the more muscle you have, the quickly it burns fat from your body and results in even more fat loss.

Small, frequent meals to keep your body's regulators from spiking and dropping, which causes fat increases. You should also watch that you eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible, and completely stay away from processed foods if possible. There are too many unnatural ingredients contained in processed foods and fast foods- trans fats and artificial sweeteners are among the worst.

This is a good resource for more information about being "fit after forty"!
